Horror Movies
The feature section of the Halloween Houston Chronicle featured an article about the most reviewed popular horror movies. The editor challenged four reporters to list their top ten in the horror movie genre. The article and the reporters' lists inspired me to blog about our horror movie experiences. What are the most "horrific" 1950s movies for you? Second, what is your top ten list of the most "horrific" movies you have seen.
For the 1950s I chose two: The Thing from Outer Space (the original, not the remake by John Carpenter) and The Invasion of the Body Snatchers (the original version of 1956, not the remake). Remember who played the creature from outer space in his film debut? James Arness, who later became Matt Dillon on Gunsmoke.
What are your top scary movies of the 50s? What are the top ten scary movies of all time for you.
Here is my list in the order of the scariest first:
1. The Birds
2. The Omen (1976)
3. Psycho (the original Alfred Hitchcock version)
4. The Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)
5. The Thing from Outer Space
6. John Carpenter's The Thing
7. The Haunting with Julie Harris
8. Jaws
9. The Exorcist (original version)
10. It (made for TV movie based on Stephen King's novel)
If we can get enough bloggers, we can compile a couple of lists--the top scariest movies of the 50s and the top scariest movies of all time. Please blog in with your lists.

Some of our classmates will recall that my parents owned the Lake Theater so I saw almost every scary movie that came out during that time but the worst was "The Beast With Five Fingers"... anyone remember the hand playing the piano during the night? I had nightmares for sometime after that. JAWS was probably the next one that scared me to death -- or at least out of the water. I still do not like the beach except to watch the waves roll in !!

I don't know if any of you remember a movie named "Them" in the early 50's re. huge ants, but it was a very well
made movie (not like the so called "B"
movies.) It starred James Whitemore.
Really creepy. I think that would be
at the top of my list. Then:
2. Psycho
3. The Shining
4. The Exorcist
5. The Others (Nicole Kidman)
6. The Mothman Prophecies (Richard Gere)
7. Tarantula (an old 50's movie)
8. The Creature from the Black Lagoon
9. Texas Chainsaw Murders
10.The Fouke Monster
This is kinda fun!
